SUMMARY:Walkway Connections (For Kids!): American Eels In Our Hudson River
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, April 24 from 6-7 p.m. at Upper Landing Park in Poughkeepsie\, Jackie Brooks\, an environmental educator with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation through the Student Conservation Association\, will teach us all about the extraordinary life cycle of the mysterious American Eel that can be found right in our backyard swimming in the Hudson River. With many parts of their lives remaining unknown\, scientists are continually asking questions about these fascinating creatures. This presentation highlights local efforts to monitor the incoming baby American Eels\, known as Glass Eels.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJackie has been working with the Norrie Point Environmental Education Center since getting their start interning with the Hudson River Eel Project in 2024. \nAll Walkway Connections events are free to attend and appropriate for all ages.  Walkway Connections is supported in part by the Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area and The M&T Charitable Foundation. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Catskill Ballet Presents Alice In Wonderland
DESCRIPTION:Catskill Ballet Theatre returns to the Ulster Performing Arts Center this April with its beloved production of Alice in Wonderland\, a full-length ballet bringing Lewis Carroll’s fantastical world to life through classical dance. \nThis year’s production stars guest artist Lilit Hogtanian as Alice. Hogtanian has performed as a featured artist with Slovak National Theatre\, Ballet Memphis\, and Dance Theatre of Harlem\, and Alice in Wonderland marks her inaugural season with Catskill Ballet Theatre. Returning to the production is Ethan Schweitzer-Gaslin as the White Rabbit. Schweitzer-Gaslin has dazzled audiences in the Catskill Ballet Theatre’s annual production of The Nutcracker as the lead soloist in Candy Canes and the Soldier Doll. \nAudiences will also meet new friends in Wonderland this season\, including the Walrus\, the Carpenter\, and the Oysters\, joining familiar favorites like the Cheshire Cat\, the Queen of Hearts\, and the Mad Hatter.

SUMMARY:Conan (UK Caveman Battle Doom Pioneers)
DESCRIPTION:Conan’s doom is singular. Carved of granite. Yes\, of course there’ve been changes since guitarist/vocalist Jon Davis founded the group in 2006\, but the intention at the time toward superlative heavy – tonal extremity wrought with impressionist lyrics stripping ideas to the core where sometimes the whole line is just one word; they’ve always called it “Caveman Battle Doom” – remains at the root of everything they’ve done since. And across five studio records in the decade from 2012-2022\, Conan have set the standard by which much of “heavy” anything is judged. And in comparison\, most is found wanting. \nBut for every time you’ve heard about Conan’s music being like galloping steeds or frost-covered sharp-peaked mountains\, etc.\, imagery of largesse and violence\, the truth is Conan are an exercise in frequency. It’s the low resonance that shakes your chest\, the depth of the bass – now handled by David Ryley (ex-Fudge Tunnel) – the push of air from Johnny King’s kick drum\, or the way the dark-fuzz distortion of Davis’ guitar is offset by shouting vocals cutting through that sometimes punishing onslaught\, rarely to offer comfort so much as add viciousness to the crash\, plod and pillage.

SUMMARY:Buffalo Stack
DESCRIPTION:After thriving as a sideman musician in the New York City music scene for several years\, songwriter\, guitarist and vocalist Andy Stack heeded that call and headed north on a whim to the Hudson Valley (home to luminaries like Bob Dylan and The Band) and founded the group Buffalo Stack and the music production co. Buffalo Stack Productions. \n\nAndy brings to Buffalo Stack his command of American roots music\, his knowledge of the folk traditions from his ancestors’ homeland of Ireland and his modern music sensibilities. Influences from Chicago\, to the Delta\, from New Orleans to New York City\, all find their way into the cocktail.  He culls the deep cuts for material\, improvises solos with a compelling approach to his instrument\, and leads the band through a dynamic and adventurous set of original songs and carefully selected covers. The band in its versatility has performed in different formations from duo to big band with a horn section and background singers\, consistently bringing enthusiastic audiences to their feet.  Andy is also in high demand as a sideman\, recently lending his talents to Girl From the North Country (Bob Dylan) on Broadway\, Yola (Grammy nominated artist) and the Cosmic Orchestra\, backing national acts monthly.
