SUMMARY:Memorial Day Weekend: Celebration Of Trees
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon of connection\, exploration\, and creative expression in celebration of the trees that shape and sustain this landscape. This joyful\, family-friendly gathering invites you to slow down\, engage your senses\, and deepen your relationship with the natural world. \nWe begin in the Sculpture Field\, where horticulturalist extraordinaire Marc Wolf will offer a guided walk through the park’s trails\, introducing you to a rich diversity of native trees. Together\, we’ll learn to identify different species\, explore the varied habitats across the land\, and take time to greet the trees as they awaken for the season. \nFollowing the walk\, you’re invited to a community art offering led by local artist Jennifer Zackin. Participants gather to wrap lengths of rope around a standing deceased tree — similar to a Maypole — transforming it into a living\, evolving sculpture along our Welcome Trail. \nWe’ll end the day with a simple gratitude closing\, led by the SHP Garden Team\, honoring the trees for all that they give — air\, water\, shelter — and marking this seasonal moment of renewal with presence and appreciation. \nChildren are welcome\, but must be accompanied by an adult. \nProgram Schedule: \n12:30 – 2 pm | Guided Tree Walk (Marc Wolf) – Meet in the Sculpture Field for a family-friendly walk through the park’s trails. Learn to identify native trees\, explore the diverse habitats on the land\, and take time to greet the trees as they awaken for the season. \n2 – 3 pm | Community Tree Weaving & Art Offering (Jennifer Zackin) – Participate in a collaborative tree weaving installation\, where we gather around our chosen tree and weave together\, gradually forming a living\, collective sculpture. \n3 pm | Closing (SHP’s Garden Team) – A simple\, shared moment to thank the trees for all they give — air\, water\, and shelter — and to honor the season of renewal.\nRain Date: Sunday\, May 24th \nTickets:\nGeneral Admission: $30\nMember Ticket: 15% off\nKids: $12 \nPrograms include all day access to our grounds\, from 10 am – 4 pm.

SUMMARY:Ted Dixon - Would it be enough - Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:“We never know what is enough until we know what’s less than enough.” \nI am honored and delighted to present “Would it be enough\,” my first solo exhibition with the Sketchbook Gallery\, Saugerties NY. \nAs a Hudson Valley-based abstract painter\, much of my efforts are focused on creating paintings that encourage viewers to rethink how experiences shape who we are. My thoughts and imagination skirt the boundaries between past\, present\, and future encounters to seek meaning and purpose of joy and hope\, as well as sadness and despair. \nWith these new paintings\, I am inviting the viewer to consider how “enough” plays a role in how we feel\, the decisions we make\, and the person we continue to grow into. \n“The theme of the exhibit came out of my thoughts of a parent who has outlived two of their children\, of a people who continue to wonder when\, and my understanding that received blessings should not come with guilt.” \nI hope you can join in my conversation with Elizabeth Keithline at the gallery on Saturday\, May 23 (from 2:00 to 3:00 pm) – it will be fun. \nTed

SUMMARY:Levon Helm's Birthday Weekend - Night 1
DESCRIPTION:The Helm Family Midnight Ramble is a musical tribute to the founding songbook of Rock and Roll. Born inside the hallowed walls of Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock\, NY\, the Midnight Ramble has preserved and furthered Levon Helm’s legacy for nearly two decades\, playing the iconic music of The Band\, and Levon Helm. \nThe Helm Family Midnight Ramble crosses generational and musical lines\, featuring an ever-evolving family of musicians. Amy Helm honors her father’s penultimate vision for both Levon Helm Studios and the Midnight Ramble – to create a community for musicians to share their art\, and “keep it going.” \nWith special guests Chaney Sims & Jackson Speller \nChaney Sims was raised listening to old school R&B\, Soul\, Blues\, Jazz\, and Worksongs. Steeped in these musical traditions\, she is dedicated to sharing their significance; revamping classics to reflect her experiences as a queer woman of color; and telling her story. \n\n\n\nChaney has been nominated for a GRAMMY award\, as well as two Blues Music Awards\, with the Heritage Blues Orchestra (H.B.O.) for their debut album\, And Still I Rise\, an international collaboration that honors African-American roots music. She has also received an Award of Distinction from the Fresh Fruit Festival for her performance in tribute to LGBTQ Jazz greats at Joe’s Pub. \nJackson Speller is a Woodstock-area guitarist and vocalist who performs with Brian Mitchell & Friends — Brian Mitchell being the renowned keyboardist and longtime Woodstock resident known for his work with Levon Helm\, Bob Dylan\, and BB King. \nSpeller plays guitar and vocals in the band alongside Mitchell (keys/accordion)\, Randy Ciarlante (drums)\, Ben Zwerin (bass)\, and Kate Skwire (vocals).
