SUMMARY:Sita Gómez – Watercolors
DESCRIPTION:“Sita Gómez – Watercolors” at Hudson Hall is a vivid\, career‑spanning retrospective of Cuban‑American artist Sita Gómez\, whose fiercely colorful paintings of women blend glamour\, politics\, and personal history. It’s a rare look at watercolors by the 94‑year‑old artist Sita Gómez\, expanding on her February–April retrospective at Hudson Hall\, curated by Nancy Cobean of Rose Gallery. \nBorn in Paris in 1932 and now based in Hudson\, Gómez fled Nazi‑occupied Europe as a child and later left Cuba after Castro’s revolution. Her work is steeped in those experiences of exile and survival\, focusing almost exclusively on women—glamorous stars\, “bag ladies\,” queer couples\, everyday figures—painting them with unapologetic sensuality\, humor\, and a strong Latin mood that reflects her Hispanic heritage \nThe exhibition runs from April 11–May 3\, 2026.   \nAdmission is free\, reservations are recommended.

SUMMARY:Holocaust Syndrome - A Play of Survival and History
DESCRIPTION:Studio Theater in Exile at Hudson Valley MOCA in Peekskill\, New York announces two limited engagement premiere film screenings of the one-woman play\, Holocaust Syndrome on Saturday\, April 25 and Sunday\, April 26\, 2026 @ 3:00 PM.  Q&A immediately follows with playwright Aliza Levy-Erber and dramaturge/director\, Mara Mills. A personal story juxtaposed with history\, Holocaust Syndrome examines a life’s journey spent trying to understand deep-rooted trauma; the relationship between a mother and daughter when the mother is unable to nurture her child due to sheer devastation; and how this effects the generations of survivors\, adult and child\, and their children.\n‍\nHolocaust Syndrome is based on playwright\, Aliza Levy-Erber’s own personal history.  The story follows Emmi\, a child Holocaust survivor whose seemingly successful post-Holocaust life begins to break apart soon after her mother dies. The daughter of a survivor and a resistance fighter\, Emmi fights inner demons by reflecting on\, and returning to\, the past to find a way to separate her own experiences and her mother’s during the holocaust\, while teaching a university class on the Holocaust and Dutch Resistance. In Emmi’s search for her own memories and feelings\, she discovers the story of her father\, Richard Levy\, while visiting Terezin Concentration Camp\, and her search for self grows more fraught as she works with a therapist to find connections and individuality.
