SUMMARY:UAW Earthen Plot Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Earthen Plot; May 16 – June 29\, 2026 \nUAW is proud to present Earthen Plot\, which brings together artists whose practices are rooted—physically\, spiritually\, or intuitively—in the conditions of place. Selected by UAW founder Helen Toomer from over 200 participants in Open Studios by UAW\, this exhibition\, hosted at UAW’s HQ in Kingston\, of 37 artists considers how creative practices both nurture and unsettle relationships to land\, material\, and present conditions. \nAcross sculpture\, painting\, installation\, and more ephemeral forms\, the works trace connections between body and terrain\, cultivation and extraction\, intimacy and scale. Together\, they reveal the many ways artists relate to their surroundings—whether in harmony\, tension\, or quiet observation. \nThe artists included are Adie Russell\, Alicia Genevieve Mikles\, Alison Owen\, Amelia Biewald\, Amelia Toelke\, Amy Talluto\, Andrea Loefke\, Amy Yoes\, Ann B. Murphy\, Ashley Lyon\, Bob Szantyr\, Carolyn Sheehan\, Catrin Perih\, Christine Domanic\, Deb Lawrence\, Gossamer Rozen\, Jane Orr\, Jesse Bransford\, Jon Beer\, Judith Hoyt\, Kate Steciw\, Katherine Burger\, Kathy Ruttenberg\, Lala Abaddon\, Leonor Mendoza\, Lexa Walsh\, Manju Shandler\, Marco Crocchianti\, Margaret Cogswell\, Melissa Dadourian\, Nadia Martinez\, Natalie Baxter\, Nicole Helen Brunner\, Ransome\, Sarah E. Brook\, Steven Weinberg\, Yoonmi Lee and Zejian Shen. \nOpen Saturdays\, plus extended hours during Open Studios (May 16-17) and UAW (June 25-29) \nCreated by Helen Toomer

SUMMARY:Rock: Science Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first installment of our new science lecture series\, exploring the story of rock with two of the Hudson Valley’s most engaging geologists. Set on the grounds of Spiral House Park\, this program invites you to experience the landscape through a geological lens\, uncovering the ancient forces that shaped the land beneath our feet. \nThe day includes a guided walk through the park’s trails\, followed by a lecture exploring related themes in greater depth. Together\, these offerings provide both an in-field and classroom-style experience of the region’s geological history. \nMeet Dr. Titus\, a leading geologist of the Catskills region\, as he returns to Spiral House Park to guide this walk through deep time. SUMMARY:David Hornung at Hawk + Hive
DESCRIPTION:In Counterpoint\, David Hornung brings together a body of work that is both rigorous and responsive\, revealing compositions that continue to shift and unfold over time\, through a process that is both deliberate and open-ended. Built from interlocking shapes and finely tuned color relationships\, these works evolve through response rather than preconception. Each decision leads to another\, allowing the composition to emerge over time with a sense of immediacy and quiet tension. \nThe title Counterpoint is borrowed from music\, suggesting independent elements moving in relation to one another. In Hornung’s paintings\, color\, shape\, and surface operate in this way\, creating a dynamic balance between structure and improvisation. Subtle shifts in hue and contour activate the surface\, while hand-drawn edges retain a sense of movement and touch. \n\n\nFor further Information\, please contact Jayne Parker at jayne@hawkandhive.com. (917) 544-9071 \nCounterpoint\nMay 16 – June 28\, 2026

SUMMARY:Ted Dixon – Would it be enough – Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:“We never know what is enough until we know what’s less than enough.” \nI am honored and delighted to present “Would it be enough\,” my first solo exhibition with the Sketchbook Gallery\, Saugerties NY. \nAs a Hudson Valley-based abstract painter\, much of my efforts are focused on creating paintings that encourage viewers to rethink how experiences shape who we are. My thoughts and imagination skirt the boundaries between past\, present\, and future encounters to seek meaning and purpose of joy and hope\, as well as sadness and despair. \nWith these new paintings\, I am inviting the viewer to consider how “enough” plays a role in how we feel\, the decisions we make\, and the person we continue to grow into. \n“The theme of the exhibit came out of my thoughts of a parent who has outlived two of their children\, of a people who continue to wonder when\, and my understanding that received blessings should not come with guilt.” \nI hope you can join in my conversation with Elizabeth Keithline at the gallery on Saturday\, May 23 (from 2:00 to 3:00 pm) – it will be fun. \nTed
