SUMMARY:Gang Of Four
DESCRIPTION:Dave Allen\, Hugo Burnham\, Andrew Gill\, and Jon King came together as Gang Of Four in 1976 in Leeds\, UK. They released the Damaged Goods EP on Fast Product in October 1978\, and on the heels of their first US tour in 1979\, Entertainment! was released in September that year by EMI Records in the UK and Europe\, and in the US by Warner Bros. Records in 1980. The album is considered a seminal work in the post-punk genre\, being ranked 273 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2020\, 49th in their 100 Best Debut Albums of All Time in 2023\, and as the fifth best album of 1979 by the NME. The band won Mojo’s ‘Inspiration’ Award in 2005. \nAllen and Burnham left the Band in the mid ’80s\, but Gill and King continued\, on and off with other musicians\, until the original band reunited in 2005 for almost 2 years of touring and an album of re-recordings and additional mixes\, Return The Gift. In 2012\, King left\, assuming the band would cease\, but Gill conƟnued working with various session players until his death in 2020. \n2021 saw the release by Matador Records of the Grammy-nominated limited/numbered box set\, Gang Of Four: 77-81. It sold out in three months. In 2021\, Burnham and King drafted former G4-bassist Sara Lee (B-52s\, Ani DiFranco\, Indigo Girls\, Ryuichi Sakamoto) and guitarist David Pajo (Slint\, Stereolab\, Yeah Yeah Yeahs\, Interpol) in to start touring again\, with great success and renewed energy. The current band with bassist Gail Greenwood (Belly\, L7) and guitarist Ted Leo (TL & The Pharmacists\, Aimee Mann\, et al)\, recently completed the ‘Long Goodbye’ headlining tour of the US and Europe. Contrary to some assumptions\, Gang Of Four has not retired.

SUMMARY:Earthen Plot Late Opening / Pre-game Dance Party!
DESCRIPTION:UAW is proud to present Earthen Plot which brings together artists whose practices are rooted—physically\, spiritually\, or intuitively—in the conditions of place. Selected by UAW founder Helen Toomer from over 200 participants in Open Studios by UAW\, this exhibition\, hosted at UAW’s HQ in Kingston\, of 37 artists considers how creative practices both nurture and unsettle relationships to land\, material\, and present conditions. \nAcross sculpture\, painting\, installation\, and more ephemeral forms\, the works trace connections between body and terrain\, cultivation and extraction\, intimacy and scale. Together\, they reveal the many ways artists relate to their surroundings—whether in harmony\, tension\, or quiet observation. \nThe artists included are Adie Russell\, Alicia Genevieve Mikles\, Alison Owen\, Amelia Biewald\, Amelia Toelke\, Amy Talluto\, Andrea Loefke\, Amy Yoes\, Ann B. SUMMARY:Tatana Kellner – Inequity – Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:I propose to exhibit a selection of works from my recent series Apart. This is an ongoing body of work that reflects the tension between us as individuals and the systems that define our world. I constantly wonder how I as an artist can effectively respond to the daily injustices people experience. Growing up surrounded by the propaganda of a dictatorial regime\, I resist the urge to follow that path\, instead focusing on a more nuanced response. \nAs an immigrant from communist Czechoslovakia raised by Holocaust survivors\, my personal history was shaped me to inhabit a particular vantage point—an observer of society\, neither fully belonging to the world I live in nor to the one I came from. This dual perspective fuels my perception of global events\, particularly the alarming resurgence of totalitarianism and its implications for us all. \nThe notion of civilizations collapsing\, strikes a passionate chord within me\, especially now\, as we are powerlessly watching the awful human consequences and devastation of the middle east by cruel imperial whims. \nI hope that my work\, driven by a conviction that we can and must learn from the past\, trying to prevent the repetition of its darkest chapters reminds the viewer of how art and joy can form meaningful modes of resistance. \nI find comfort in direct interaction with materials – painting\, drawing\, and collage—through which I express my observations and emotions. Each mark is a contemplative act\, a quest to transform feelings of helplessness into a resonant expression that speaks to me. My creative process unfolds organically\, driven by intuition and a desire to uncover the unseen and the unexpected. I explore both the accumulation and subtraction\, reflecting the fluidity and subjectivity of my personal experiences and insights. \nIn my art I’m dedicated to forging these new pathways\, blending the poignant realities of our global challenges with the enduring beauty and potential for renewal that each new day brings. \nExhibition Dates: June 27 – Aug 1\, 2026\nGallery Hours: Thurs/Sun – 12-5pm\, Fri/Sat – 12-6pm

SUMMARY:Pretend till it Hurts - Matthew Gilbert - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:In “Pretend till it Hurts”\, Matthew Gilbert presents a series of sculptures and textile drawings that depict fatal stories with a dark sense of humor. \nBlending cartoon logic with gothic imagery\, Gilbert projects themes of abandonment onto crumbling architecture. The plush materials and whimsical details soften the otherwise catastrophic subject matter\, adding theatrical melodrama that is both sincere and deprecating.
