SUMMARY:Farm Project’s Summer Soiree
DESCRIPTION:The Poughkeepsie Farm Project – a regenerative nonprofit farm in the Hudson Valley – is bringing back its Summer Soiree on Sunday\, August 30th\, from 4-7pm. (Use code INSIDE for $10 off each ticket! More participants to come!) Every ticket directly supports PFP’s mission: growing food regeneratively\, building soil health\, teaching kids about food systems\, training the next generation of farmers\, and keeping fresh produce accessible to our neighbors across the Hudson Valley. \nThis year’s event is a dine-around that will bring together 12 incredible chefs (and even more ingredient partners!) from across the Hudson Valley and Catskills\, each serving up a dish inspired by the season’s harvest. Guests wander from station to station\, sampling everything from Corwin Kave’s James Beard-recognized cooking at Deer Mountain Inn to local favorites like Little Goat\, Rosie General\, and our pop-up partner Little Loaf Bakery! It’s a chance to taste the incredible food culture our region has to offer – all while supporting the regenerative farm that helps make it possible. \nBeyond the food\, you’ll find a silent auction stacked with local experiences like a stay at Hemlock Neversink\, a retreat at Omega Institute\, dinner at Nines Germantown\, and more – plus live music from the amazing Soil + Soul! Open bar with drinks from Anytime Farmhouse\, Plan Bee Brewery\, Curious Elixirs\, Poppi soda\, and Saratoga Water. I can promise some little surprises throughout the night too.

SUMMARY:Cumbia Vortex: Chicha Libre
DESCRIPTION:North America’s psychedelic cumbia pioneers Chicha Libre launched the first psychedelic cumbia and chicha wave in North America in 2006 with its debut album Sonido Amazonico on Barbès Records – a tribute to 70’s Peruvian tropical rhythms and psychedelic sounds. \nChicha is originally the name of a corn-based liquor favored by the Incas in pre-colombian days. Chicha is also the name of Peru’s particular brand of cumbia first made popular in the late 60’s by bands such as Los Destellos\, Manzanita\, Los Mirlos and Juaneco y su Combo. While loosely inspired by Colombian accordion-driven cumbias\, chicha incorporated the distinctive pentatonic scales of Andean melodies\, some Cuban son\, and the sounds of surf guitars\, farfisa organs and moog synthesizers; an oddly post-modern combination of western psychedelia\, Cuban and Colombian rhythms\, national melodies and idiosyncratic inventions which were close in spirit to the Congolese rumba of Franco or the pop syncretism of Os Mutantes. \nChicha Libre’s sound and approach are completely indebted to the Peruvian bands it originally emulated. Like their mentors\, they use surf guitar\, organ sounds and latin percussion to play a mixture of borrowed and homegrown sounds. Their sound has become more processed\, synth sounds and treated guitars and the borrowings differ from that of Peruvian precursors – classical music and pop debris from 3 continents in Chicha Libre’s case – but the latin rhythms that form the basis of the music are both as inherent and as foreign to them as they were to the Shipibo Indians who first took up the electric guitar. \nThe current six member Chicha Libre is made up of French\, US\, Puerto Rican\, Venezuelan and Mexican musicians who play a mixture of latin rhythms\, surf and psychedelic pop inspired by Peruvian music from Lima and the Amazon: Olivier Conan on cuatro\, vocals; Joshua Camp on keytar\, accordion\, vocals; Karina Colis on timbales\, vocals; Dan Martinez on bass; Neil Ochoa on congas and Stephen Ulrich on guitar.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Iain Machell - SECOND NATURE
DESCRIPTION:All my work begins with observation from nature. I want to know what lies behind the forms and textures –the marks of time and experience written into everything from fossils and rock formations to plants and trees. \nMy drawings and sculptures are partners in crime and dancing partners. Drawing involves investigative mark-making and sculpture is a form of physical thinking. The combination is a material proposition that invites you to look at the world in a completely different way\, to escape words and communicate in a physical way. \nRather than working realistically\, I’d rather look beneath the surface to observe raw energy and a struggle. The forces of growth and decay\, pressure\, time\, and adverse human influences work their way into the tension between 2D and 3D. I don’t want to imitate nature\, I would rather interrogate it. – Iain Machell 2026

SUMMARY:The Slambovian Circus of Dreams
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Phoenicia Playhouse’s 50th Anniversary Season\, Flying Cat Music welcomes back the legendary band\, The Slambovian Circus of Dreams (Unplugged)! \nVoted “Best Band of 2022” by NY’s Chronogram Magazine for their rootsy\, rockin’ psychedelia\, the Slambovians’ deep connection with audiences and exciting live shows are legendary. Musical influences of Dylan\, Bowie\, Incredible String Band\, Syd Barrett\, and The Waterboys can be heard\, yet the Slambovians’ musicianship and critically acclaimed songwriting stand on their own. Joziah (the resident shaman of Slambovia)\, leads with vocals described as “soothing and bewitching as a snake oil tonic.” Longtime bandmates Tink Lloyd (accordion\, cello\, mandolin\, flute) and guitarist/mandolin wizard Sharkey McEwen bring their magic to the Slambovian brew with “a little help from their friends” – RJ McCarty (keys\, bass\, sax)\, Bob Torsello (bass)\, and Matthew Abourezk (drums). This Woodstock-tinged psychedelia has a hint of southern rock and British folk combined with solid songwriting – a slice of Americana pie that is irresistible!

SUMMARY:Celebration of Zena: An Immersive Forest Experience
DESCRIPTION:An Evening of Immersive Sounds\, Sights\, and Reciprocity with Local Wilderness\, featuring new work by Zaneta and Zoe Keller \nJoin us for a celebration of our beloved Zena Highwoods through an evening of immersive sounds and sights from our local forest. Featuring the premiere of interdisciplinary sound artist Zaneta Sykes’ Invitations from the Land: the Zena Highwoods\, an eco-ritual of reciprocity based on the artist’s Filipinx traditions of singing to land in offering. Community members will be immersed in a year of forest soundscapes recorded on the solstices and equinoxes in the Zena Highwoods\, interwoven with projections of wildlife illustrations by Zoe Keller\, documented during the same time period in the very same forest. Soundscapes and sightings will blend into the autumnal night chorus\, as the community gathers under the full moon to sing back to the land in a full circle exchange of listening and sound between human and more-than-human kin. \nAs a focal point of connection to the forest\, there will be an art altar space. Community members are welcome to bring items to place on the altar\, such as flowers\, art\, and poetry – offerings of beauty and gratitude for our local wilderness. \nA panel discussion on the Power of Community Art and Science in Local Stewardship will begin the evening\, with Miranda Javid of the Woodstock Land Conservancy\, local artist and Woodstock native Zoe Keller\, and interdisciplinary sound artist and nature recordist Zaneta Sykes. \nThis evening also marks the release of Invitations from the Land: the Zena Highwoods\, an album and book documenting the Zena Highwoods in a year of seasonal recordings and writings by Zaneta Sykes and featuring illustrations by Zoe Keller\, created in partnership with the Woodstock Land Conservancy. Signed copies of the work will be available.

The forces of growth and decay\, pressure\, time\, and adverse human influences work their way into the tension between 2D and 3D. I don’t want to imitate nature\, I would rather interrogate it. – Iain Machell 2026
