SUMMARY:James McMurtry with BettySoo
DESCRIPTION:A Lone Star sheriff hunts quail on horseback and keeps a secret second family. A mechanic lies among the spare parts on the floor of his garage and wonders if he can afford to keep his girlfriend. A troubled man sees hallucinations of a black dog and a wandering boy and hums “Weird Al” songs in his head. These are some of the strange and richly drawn characters who inhabit James McMurtry’s eleventh album\, The Black Dog & the Wandering Boy. A supremely insightful and inventive storyteller\, he teases vivid worlds out of small details\, setting them to arrangements that have the elements of Americana—rolling guitars\, barroom harmonies\, traces of banjo and harmonica—but sound too sly and smart for such a general category. Funny and sad often in the same breath\, the album adds a new chapter to a long career that has enjoyed a resurgence as young songwriters like Sarah Jarosz and Jason Isbell cite him as a formative influence.\n\nAs varied as they are\, these new story-songs find inspiration in scraps from his family’s past: a stray sketch\, an old poem by a family friend\, the hallucinations experienced by his father\, the writer Larry McMurtry. “It’s something I do all the time\,” he says\, “but usually I draw from my own scraps.” As any good writer will do\, McMurtry collects little ideas and hangs on to them for years\, sometimes even decades. “South Texas Lawman” grew out of a line from a poem by a friend of the McMurtry clan\, T.D. Hobart. Driven by gravelly guitars and a loose rhythm section\, it’s a careful study of a man whose feelings of obsolescence motivate him to take drastic action in the final verse. “Dwight’d stay at our house way back in the ‘70s\, when we lived in Virginia. During one visit he wrote this poem about his father’s attitude toward South Texas. He wrote it down on cardboard\, and I came across it recently. There was a line about hunting quail on horseback\, and that was the seed of the song. I’ve lost the poem since then.”

SUMMARY:Keller Williams
DESCRIPTION:Native Virginian Keller Williams released his first album in 1994\, FREEK.  Since then\, he’s given each of his albums a single syllable title: BUZZ\, SPUN\, BREATHE\, LOOP\, LAUGH\, HOME\, DANCE\, STAGE\, GRASS\, DREAM\, TWELVE\, LIVE\, ODD\, THIEF\, KIDS\, BASS\, PICK\, FUNK\, VAPE\, SYNC\, RAW\, SANS\, ADD\, SPEED\, CELL\, DROLL and now DEER. Each title serves as a concise summation of the concept guiding each project. Keller’s albums reflect his pursuit to create music that sounds like nothing else. Un-beholden to conventionalism\, he seamlessly crosses genre boundaries. The end product is music that encompasses rock\, jazz\, funk and bluegrass\, and always keeps the audience on their feet. \nKeller built his reputation initially on his engaging live performances\, no two of which are ever alike. For most of his career he has performed solo. His stage shows are rooted around Keller singing his compositions and choice cover songs\, while accompanying himself on acoustic guitar\, bass\, guitar synthesizer and drum samples; a technique called live phrase sampling or“looping”. The end result often leans toward a hybrid of alternative folk and groovy electronica\, a genre Keller jokingly calls “acoustic dance music” or ADM.” \nKeller’s constant evolution has led to numerous band projects as well; Keller & The Keels\, Grateful Grass\, KWahtro\, Keller and the Travelin’ McCourys\, Grateful Gospel\, More Than A Little and most recently DeadPettyKellerGrass. You can even catch him from time to time going back to his troubadour roots with his “Shut the Folk Up and Listen” series.   Keller can be found playing clubs and festivals with these projects and his tried and true solo looping show\, always changing things up and keeping moving.

SUMMARY:Disco Dance Party! Gentleman Brawlers
DESCRIPTION:More than a concert: It’s an electrifying experience!\n\nNY’s finest funky disco kids Gentleman Brawlers\, create a sonic blend of disco-based horn lines\, sticky highlife guitar\, and polyrhythms from West Africa\, Trinidad\, and Brazil. When the collective performs\, it’s more than a concert: It’s an electrifying experience. Led by creative duo Becca Fox and Matt Walsh\, the band channels musical inspo Talking Heads with their distinct brand of Afrofunk and indie dance music. A visual as well as auditory feast on stage\, Canadian blog The Revue calls GB “tantalizing and intoxicating.”\n\n\nFox\, leading an expandable cast of dancers\, creates thrilling\, immersive live shows. A multi-disciplinary artist of Haitian and Jewish descent\, Fox embodies what it means to be mixed\, taking virtuosic dance turns in an eclectic range of styles from rhythm tap and West African to pop-modern contemporary. With dance performances at the Metropolitan Opera (“Eurydice” and “Lucia di Lammermoor”) and numerous European TV ad campaigns to her credit\, Fox brings a potent\, incendiary presence to the stage that Arts Council of Greater New Haven described as “…airborne…half-vocalist\, half-bird.” \nBecca will lead a pre-show dance class!

SUMMARY:Sita Gómez – Watercolors
DESCRIPTION:“Sita Gómez – Watercolors” at Hudson Hall is a vivid\, career‑spanning retrospective of Cuban‑American artist Sita Gómez\, whose fiercely colorful paintings of women blend glamour\, politics\, and personal history. It’s a rare look at watercolors by the 94‑year‑old artist Sita Gómez\, expanding on her February–April retrospective at Hudson Hall\, curated by Nancy Cobean of Rose Gallery. \nBorn in Paris in 1932 and now based in Hudson\, Gómez fled Nazi‑occupied Europe as a child and later left Cuba after Castro’s revolution. Her work is steeped in those experiences of exile and survival\, focusing almost exclusively on women—glamorous stars\, “bag ladies\,” queer couples\, everyday figures—painting them with unapologetic sensuality\, humor\, and a strong Latin mood that reflects her Hispanic heritage \nThe exhibition runs from April 11–May 3\, 2026.   \nAdmission is free\, reservations are recommended.

SUMMARY:Beatles vs. Stones – A Musical Showdown
DESCRIPTION:“Beatles vs. Stones – A Musical Showdown” is a high‑energy tribute concert that stages a playful “battle of the bands” between two top tribute acts: Abbey Road (The Beatles) and Satisfaction – The International Rolling Stones Show.  The two bands trade off “power sets”\, each making their case with hits spanning their catalogs—think “She Loves You”\, “Hey Jude\,” and “Come Together” versus “Satisfaction”\, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash\,” and “Start Me Up.” \nThe show leans into costumes\, period gear\, and banter\, inviting the audience to cheer for “their” band while still being in on the joke that the rivalry is part of the fun.  The night ends with both bands on stage together for a joint encore mash‑up\, a “what‑if” fantasy of Beatles and Stones sharing a bill and jamming on each other’s songs.

SUMMARY:Bakersfield Mist
DESCRIPTION:April 16-26\, 2026\nThurs\, Fri\, & Sat @ 7:00\, Sun @ 2:00\n\nInspired by true events\, Bakersfield Mist is a hilarious and thought-provoking comedy-drama that pits small town smarts vs big city credentials in a battle over art and authenticity. When Maude\, brash and unapologetic\, buys a thrift-store painting she’s convinced is a lost masterpiece worth millions\, she calls in Lionel Percy\, a highbrow art expert from New York City\, to authenticate it. What follows is a fiery battle about truth\, worth\, and integrity. As tempers flare and worlds collide\, this witty\, gripping play celebrates the courage to stand your ground and fight for what you believe in\, no matter who—or what—tries to convince you otherwise.
