SUMMARY:The Church
DESCRIPTION:The Church\nTHE SINGLES: 1980-2025 \nFew bands enter their fifth decade of making music with all the fierce creative energy of their early years. Even fewer bands are like The Church. Experiencing a renaissance of sorts with their worldwide critically-hailed 26th album The Hypnogogue and its companion 27th album (that also serves as a worthy standalone) Eros Zeta and the Perfumed Guitars\, The Church has witnessed their continued impact to astonishingly grow exponentially in audience size and media attention through not only their new albums but a world tour that took them through North America\, the UK\, Europe and back home to Australia. Coupled with the 2024 vinyl re-issues of their first four albums – Of Skins & Heart\, The Blurred Crusade\, Séance\, and Heyday – their most recent Australian tour was one of their most successful tours to date. The band also launched an exclusive fan community via a partnership with The Chorus\, aptly named nightfriends. It is a first for this storied band – an online experience where fans can receive first dibs on concert and new release presales\, have access to unreleased songs/demos/live cuts\, never- before-seen live show video content and concert films\, behind-the-music essays about the creation of pivotal albums\, exclusive band Q&As and Forum interactions\, and much more.

SUMMARY:Jesca Hoop
DESCRIPTION:Jesca Hoop\nJesca Hoop’s Long Wave Home spills with hope for a broken world. The seventh solo album from the California-born\, Manchester-based songwriter took shape amidst a period of both personal and geopolitical upheaval: a web of schisms that seemed to reflect one another as they unfolded. It is the first album Hoop produced by herself\, and it marks both a fresh start and a deepening of her extensive\, multifaceted discography. Across the record’s rich and sumptuous tracks\, Hoop deeply considers what it is that people owe to each other: in individual relationships\, in community\, and as witnesses to the broader world. These days run thick with terror. Long Wave Home sinks into it and surfaces anew with a nimble\, inquisitive spirit. \nAt the end of 2024\, Hoop began mapping out what would become Long Wave Home with a focus on her own independence as an artist and working musician. “I shed a lot of superfluous roles and structures wherever I was making too many compromises\,” she says. “With that blank slate\, I started to write.”The songs\, at first\, came slowly. Hoop’s life moved at an even keel\, and she struggled to find points of tension that might serve as the basis for new music. “If life doesn’t present you with a change\, how do you grow?” she asks. Then\, in 2025\, change came for her. Some of Hoop’s most trusted relationships began to shift considerably. “My writing opened up. I had more tension than I knew what to do with\, and plenty to explore about human relationships\,” Hoop says. “I was able to engage by just recording what I was seeing around me.”

SUMMARY:Chuck Ragan
DESCRIPTION:Chuck Ragan\nwith Laura Stevenson\nPeople discover Chuck Ragan in different ways. Some people know Ragan from the pioneering punk act Hot Water Music he’s co-fronted for the past three decades. Others are aware of his successful solo career or the Revival Tour\, a collection of traveling troubadours that included his peers like Frank Turner and the Gaslight Anthem’s Brian Fallon. Some folks may have even come across him from the successful fly fishing operation he runs out of Grass Valley\, California. The one throughline through all this is the way that Ragan approaches everything with a level of honesty and integrity that can’t be faked—and that sentiment is undeniable on Love And Lore\, his first solo collection in ten years and one that’s being released as Hot Water Music take a well-deserved victory lap for their breakout album Vows\, which came out earlier this year. \nIn some ways\, it’s a miracle that Love And Lore even exists. The album was first conceptualized by Ragan in 2016\, studio time was booked in 2019 and right before the recording was set to take place\, COVID happened and all of Ragan’s musical projects had to be put on hold so he could focus on his fishing operation to provide for his family. “We got serious about making this album again in 2022\, but I didn’t have a ton of time to devote to it between being physically exhausted and having a toddler\,” he admits. “It was just chaos.” (This also includes a tree falling on guitarist/pedal steel/multi-instrumentalist Todd Beene’s house.) Eventually Love And Lore was recorded in early 2023 and the result is an album that showcases Ragan further transcending the “folk” label to create a collection of songs that see him stretching out as a songwriter to fearlessly explore new sonic territory. \n“I’m always trying to do something different because I feel like if we’re not searching\, we’re not learning\,” he says. “My writing approach seems to be whatever the song needs or wherever the song takes you\, just let it breathe.” This sentiment is evident in songs like “Echo The Halls” which sees Ragan shaping his road-worn voice into something more melodic and measured over a backdrop of chiming pianos and phaser-friendly guitars. “Some of these songs are 15 years old and every once in a while something will pop out to me at the right time\,” he explains. “It may have started a decade ago but for some reason whatever I sang or played just felt relevant to me in that moment\, and that’s what I wanted to work on.” This quality adds a timeless quality to Love And Lore: In fact if it wasn’t for the polished production\, the roots of “Winter” could be a previously undiscovered folk classic. As Ragan sings the refrain of “free your shadow\,” there’s a multitude of meanings hidden in these three words.

SUMMARY:Jerry’s Middle Finger
DESCRIPTION:Jerry’s Middle Finger \nThree decades after the loss of Jerry Garcia\, a close-knit band of musicians are carrying the torch for his distinctive blend of soul\, guitar\, and eclectic American music. Jerry’s Middle Finger do more than celebrate the Jerry Garcia Band’s catalog; they also broadcast it to a new generation\, upholding Garcia’s dedication to camaraderie and community-building by creating their own family-like experience onstage. Double albums like Live at the Chapel San Francisco\, May 30th\, 2025 capture that experience\, shining a light on JMF’s striking ability to play the Jerry Garcia Band’s music — a blend of blues\, reggae\, Motown\, gospel\, and psychedelic rock\, performed from the early 1970s up until his passing in 1995 — with sincere reverence for the original material and a fresh electrified spirit that resonates with every generation. Modern-day audiences haven’t had the opportunity to experience this music in a live setting for years. Now\, Jerry’s Middle Finger are carrying the torch\, paying tribute to Garcia with shows at jam-band destinations across the country like the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco\, the Troubadour in Los Angeles\, and Garcia’s at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester\, NY.

SUMMARY:Art in the Barn

Not to be overlooked\, well-lit museum panels will support 2-D work with selections in a wide range of media: painting\, print making\, drawing\, collage\, mixed media\, digital art\, and photography.

SUMMARY:Spiegeltent - Martha Redbone
DESCRIPTION:GUARDIAN SPIRIT: THE WORDS OF BELL HOOKS. \nArtist\, composer\, vocalist\, and Spiegeltent favorite Martha Redbone returns to Bard SummerScape with a musical celebration of the words and legacy of bell hooks. In this developmental work-in-process\, Redbone and longtime musical collaborator Aaron Whitby embark on a multidisciplinary musical exploration of bell hooks’s landmark poetry collection\, Appalachian Elegy: Poetry and Place. \nKnown for their powerful and award-winning settings of poets Ntozake Shange in for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf (2019 Drama Desk Award; 2022 Broadway revival) and William Blake on the album\, The Garden of Love: Songs of William Blake\, Redbone and Whitby channel bell hooks’s meditative\, confessional\, and political lyricism into a genre-defying soundscape that echoes the spirit of her Kentucky roots and heritage she shares with Redbone. \nMember Toast: Friday\, July 10 \nRaise a glass to world-class performing arts with fellow Fisher Center Members ahead of Martha Redbone’s Friday evening concert.

SUMMARY:Patty Griffin
DESCRIPTION:Patty Griffin\nwith Lucy Wainwright Roche\nPatty Griffin is among the most consequential singer-songwriters of her generation\, a quintessentially American artist whose wide-ranging canon incisively explores the intimate moments and universal emotions that bind us together. \nOver two decades\, the 2x GRAMMY® Award winner – and 7x nominee – and Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement award winner\, has crafted a remarkable body of work in progress that prompted the New York Times to hail her for “[writing] cameo-carved songs that create complete emotional portraits of specific people…[her] songs have independent lives that continue in your head when the music ends.” \n2019 saw the acclaimed release of the renowned artist’s GRAMMY® Award-winning 10 th studio recording\, PATTY GRIFFIN. One of the most deeply personal recordings of Griffin’s remarkable two decade career and first-ever eponymous LP\, PATTY GRIFFIN made a top 5 debut on Billboard’s “Independent Albums” chart amidst unprecedented worldwide acclaim\, and later\, a prestigious GRAMMY® Award for “Best Folk Album.” \nGriffin’s new album\, CROWN OF ROSES\, is a deeply personal and introspective work that explores themes of identity\, nature\, family\, and womanhood. Emerging from a creative drought during the pandemic\, Griffin found herself re-evaluating the stories she’d long told herself. The result is an eight-track collection that is both sparse and emotionally rich\, blending folk\, Americana\, and blues. With CROWN OF ROSES\, Griffin offers a record that’s both grounded and transcendent — one that invites listeners to release old narratives\, embrace new truths\, and stay truly alive while they’re here. Having crafted a rich catalog that chronicles love and death\, heartache and joy\, connection and detachment\, Patty Griffin continues to push her art forward\, as always imbuing every effort with compassion and craft\, uncanny perception\, and ever- increasing ingenuity.

Novices\, advanced players\, singers and dancers are welcome. Acoustic instruments are highly preferred; please keep amplification to a minimum and use it only for instruments that need it\, such as a keyboard. Mics provided for vocalists. The event is in Tempo Lounge. Enter the building through the side door on Hunter Street. \nLed by Sean Crimmins\, a Hudson Valley native and member of the Broken Heartstrings. Sean has performed Hot Club Jazz Manouche for over 20 years and will provide “La pompe” throughout the evening with members of his band. \nTEMPO Lounge ~ Second Sundays of the Month\nSun\, 12 Jul 2026 through Sun\, 14 Feb 2027.\n$10-15 suggested donation at the door
