A Wild Game Feast at City Winery

While driving to their Wine & Dine: Wild Game Dinner in Montgomery, NY,  our excitement was piqued as the commanding “City Winery” labeled water tower came into view.  If you haven’t yet visited City Winery, we’re here to tell you it’s a go-to destination for food, wine and music enthusiasts. Beautifully designed inside and out with a warm industrial vibe, City Winery Hudson Valley is a hydro-powered winery, vineyard, restaurant, outdoor concert venue and private event space at the historic Montgomery Mills.

“Our goal is to bring the best of everything to The Hudson Valley—food, music, wine, cocktails, and one-of-a-kind experiences,” said City Winery Founder & CEO Michael Dorf. “Our team has worked hard to curate a creative array of events that will inspire new interests and bring people together to make amazing memories and start the year off right.”

And what better way to kick off the year than with a series of Wine & Dine Events. The Wild Game 2.0 dinner, was a multi-course tasting menu with wine pairings perfectly curated by Executive Chef Tony Moustakas and Head Winemaker Travis Van Caster. The four-course dinner included a robust selection of field to plate delicacies with five wine pairings.

The Wild Game 2.0 event, held in the “boiler” room with intimate wooden tables for two, exceeded our expectations. Both Executive Chef Tony Moustakas and Head Winemaker Travis Van Caster spoke in-between courses, detailing the preparation of each dish and the wine pairing. Guests received a set of fresh flatware and glasses at each course; wine was hand-poured by the winemaker and chef. Behind the scenes, the chef’s team moves almost as if reading one another’s minds, presenting a fine-tuned machine where each person is a valued component in making an aesthetically masterful plate while delivering the ultimate dining experience. Except for the berries used in the dessert, which were out of season, local ingredients are a primary staple in Chef Moustakas’ kitchen.

We graciously were the first to try their 2021 Rhône-style White Blend “Baby Barrel Orange” made at their California winery, which happened to be our favorite of the night. A wonderfully hazy orange hue with flavors of maple and tingles of bourbon and rye, which it was barreled in and evident to the tastebuds.

The entire staff is friendly, professional and knowledgeable, making it a fantastic experience for all who dine there. Thank you, City Winery, for a memorable meal and wonderful experience. We look forward to visiting again soon.
