On May 17, Saif Azzuz (Yurok, Karuk, Libyan, b. 1987) will present his first outdoor project, weych-pues / tàkhòne (where the rivers meet) (2026). The exhibit will run through November 9, 2026.
Azzuz’s twenty-five-foot-long sculpture takes the form of a giant sturgeon made of steel, aluminum, and salvaged car parts from the Hudson Valley, together with natural materials from the San Francisco Bay Area. The sculpture explores themes of environmental interconnection, colonialism, and the impact of gentrification on land and culture.
With weych-pues / tàkhòne (where the rivers meet), Azzuz brings together multiple landscapes and communities linked to the sturgeon, exploring the intimate bonds between humans and the natural world.
