Prime Mover: Ed Roberson and Alex Waterman on Jack Whitten

April 25 @ 2:00 PM

Free

Dia Beacon
3 Beekman Street
Beacon, New York

Free with museum admission.

In conjunction with the exhibition Jack Whitten: Prime Mover, Dia presents an afternoon of poetry and music to reflect on Whitten’s lifelong interest in science and space as they relate to the making of art. Poet Ed Roberson will read a selection of his experimental works, chosen in response to Whitten’s radical approach to the depiction of space in painting. Following the reading, musician Alex Waterman will perform two pieces for solo cello by composer Iannis Xenakis, namely Nomos Alpha (1965), which is characterized by a layered structure, and the later Kottos (1977). Held in the Gerhard Richter gallery, the program is hosted by Matilde Guidelli-Guidi, Dia curator and co–department head.
