Saif Azzuz (Yurok, Karuk, Libyan, b. 1987) presents his first outdoor project, Weych-pues / Tàkhòne (“where the rivers meet”) (2026), bringing together multiple landscapes and communities linked to the sturgeon, and exploring the intimate bonds between humans and the natural world..
Azzuz’s 25-foot-long sculpture takes the form of a giant sturgeon made of steel, aluminum, and salvaged car parts from the Hudson Valley, together with natural materials from the San Francisco Bay Area. The sculpture explores themes of environmental interconnection, colonialism, and the impact of gentrification on land and culture.
