Protect the Path Hiking Series: Hunter Mountain Fire Tower
Join Catskill Steward Jessica for a guided hike up the Spruceton Trail to the Hunter Mountain Fire Tower as we explore Leave No Trace Principle #4: Leave What You Find.

Date: Saturday, August 15, 2026

Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Location: (Parking details will be shared once registration is complete)

Difficulty: Strenuous

Distance: 6.9-mile round trip

Elevation Gain: 1,900 feet

Along the way, we’ll discuss why rocks, plants, artifacts, and other natural features should be left undisturbed so that others can enjoy them and ecosystems can continue to thrive. Learn how even small actions, such as picking flowers, moving rocks, or carving into trees, can have lasting impacts on the environment and the visitor experience.

This guided hike is a great opportunity to build outdoor stewardship skills, deepen your understanding of Leave No Trace practices, and experience one of the Catskills’ iconic fire tower trails. Together, we’ll explore how simple choices on the trail can help protect these special places for future generations.

Please arrive prepared with non-cotton layers, rain gear, sturdy footwear, and enough water, snacks, and lunch for the day.

Advance registration is required, with a $10 suggested donation.

Please note: To help ensure the safety of all participants and provide the best possible experience for the group, dogs are not permitted on Catskill Center guided hikes. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to hiking with you!
