Meet the Owls: Owls, Ecosystems, and Habitat Preservation
Join the Catskill Center and Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center for a special, family-friendly program exploring the important role owls play in healthy ecosystems and how we can help protect the habitats they depend on.

The highlight of the day is a rare opportunity to meet Mellow, a barred owl and wildlife ambassador, and maybe some other owl friends! Through a live presentation, participants will learn about the unique adaptations that make owls such effective hunters, their role in maintaining ecological balance, and the habitats they need to survive and thrive.
Have you ever wondered what an ecosystem would look like without owls? Discover how these nighttime predators help control rodent populations, support healthy forests, and contribute to the overall health of the environment. The program will also explore the challenges owls face, including habitat loss, and discuss ways individuals and communities can help protect the forests and natural spaces that wildlife depend on.
Wildlife rehabilitator Genevieve Salerno will share insights from her years of experience caring for injured and orphaned wildlife, offering a deeper understanding of owl conservation and the importance of habitat preservation. With more than 15 years of experience in wildlife rehabilitation and 7 years as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Genevieve is also an instructor in the Veterinary Science Department at SUNY Delhi. Her passion for wildlife education inspires people of all ages to become better stewards of the natural world.
