Hunter Area
The Hunter Area of our directory includes the villages of Hunter and Tannersville, and the hamlet of Palenville.
HUNTER
Hunter Mountain, “the snow-making capital of the world”, offers challenging terrain with trails for all skill levels. It also offers kid-friendly activities like snow tubing on 1,000-foot-long chutes, engaging ski and riding schools. A four-season destination, Hunter is also a home to the the longest and highest zipline in North America. During the summer months, visitors can enjoy the scenic Hunter Mountain Scenic Skyride, an 11 minute ride up 3200 feet to the summit, as well as annual festivals that celebrate the outdoors, music, food and drink.
TANNERSVILLE
Tannersville is located in the Town of Hunter. Once the site of small hemlock-tree tanneries, Tannersville is now a popular destination for fishing, hunting, hiking and cross-country skiing. Its storied Main Street features colorful hundred-year-old buildings that house boutique shops, antique stores and excellent restaurants.
PALENVILLE
Palenville, “the village of falling waters”, is located at the base of the majestic Kaaterskille Clove and features countless waterfalls and swimming holes. The subject of many famed Hudson River School painters and “home” to the fictional Rip Van Winkle.
