Amplified spotlight with R&B artist Law in the Hudson Valley NY

AMPLIFIED: Music Notes from the Hudson Valley | March 2026

By Melissa Esposito | March 2, 2026

There’s no doubt that TikTok and other social media sites have revolutionized the music industry. Instead of being told what to listen to by a self-appointed authority like MTV or Rolling Stone (like we did before we all had computers in our pockets), for the most part, today’s music lovers are discovering artists and curating playlists on their own.

Sure, renowned bands signed to labels with built-in marketing teams have grown to astronomical heights through social media marketing. At the same time, these digital tools have allowed independent artists to build their own rapidly growing fanbase and critical acclaim with a little DIY elbow grease.

Local Artist Spotlight: Law

As is the case with homegrown artist Law, a soulful R&B artist born and raised in Kingston NY, whose cinematic video clips not only regularly gain thousands of views but have also brought in 1.5 million followers on TikTok and more than 109,000 on Instagram. Her videos showcase a captivating combination of smooth, melodic vocals and guitar grooves, her trendy Gen Z style aesthetic, and a pendular personality that swings between deeply heartfelt and internet-silly.

“I try to make my music come alive, and using visuals to do so has been very powerful; they’re definitely an extension of the art.”

How did she bring about this level of algorithm-and-blues fandom? To Law (her stage name; her full name is Lawand Hill), the songs and videos are symbiotic. “The visuals are a part of the same story; the lyrics and melody are telling the visual part,” she explains. “I try to make my music come alive, and using visuals to do so has been very powerful; they’re definitely an extension of the art.”

But it’s more than great marketing that has brought in a legion of followers. She’s a natural, self-taught vocalist who also plays piano and guitar and writes songs based on her own experiences, which often tend to be relatable on a large scale. “[My tracks] ‘Because of You’ and ‘BLAMEshift’ are probably the songs that fans have had the most connection with—meaning, not the most popular streaming-wise, but I get DMs about them all the time and how they really have made people feel seen and understood,” she explains. “For example, ‘BLAMEshift’ is really about narcissistic abuse—I think a lot of people have also unfortunately suffered abuse by a narcissist or someone who has similar traits.”

Law wrote “BLAMEshift” after briefly stepping away from the music industry, as a way to process traumatic experiences that sudden stardom brought. She’s been professionally recording for six years, starting in her early 20s when her viral hits “Over It” and “Controller” were picked up by MTV, BET, and other major networks. She even landed brand deals like a collaboration with Fender, which gifted her a guitar. But with the glam excitement came a push-pull that didn’t align with her values—yet would eventually give her a new songwriting path and a desire to help others through her music.

“I think music is a universal language that everyone understands; I see performing as a way to bring that to life and connect the meaning of the music to people in a different way,” she explains. “My faith is extremely important to me, and because it’s my ultimate goal to live like Jesus, I’m inspired most to help people, honestly. I hope my listeners feel seen and understood.”

The Living Room at Full Circle is a live music and event space that quietly opened within the Full Circle collective, comprised of locally owned businesses in Gardiner NY. The space was designed as a hub for creativity and connection, with events ranging from yoga classes to workshops to concerts, the latter of which is gaining a fast footing thanks to a thoughtfully curated calendar of events featuring artists like psych-pop jazz-funk musician Marco Benevento, internationally acclaimed flamenco performers, and the locally curated Nest Sessions by Aubry Haddard and Jose Lopez (which you might have read about in our last article). Upcoming events are listed on their online calendar. Learn more on the Full Circle Events Calendar or @fullcirclegardiner. The Living Room at Full Circle is located at 297 Bruynswick Road in Gardiner, NY.
