INSIDE+OUT: What is your go-to song to spin when you need to pump up a crowd that’s not feeling it?

DJ TRYST: I have a few! “Blue Monday” by New Order and “Personal Jesus” by Depeche Mode definitely excite everyone. When I do my disco nights, anything by KC and the Sunshine Band or Kool and the Gang always gets the floors wild. As far as a classic Goth, I have this fantastic mash-up of “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” by Bauhaus and “Tear You Apart” by She Wants Revenge and every bat opens their wings on the floor with those. By bat, I mean my fellow Dark Creatures of the Night! Oh, and of course, “Kiss” by Prince!

👩‍🌾 "What the heck is it with the price of eggs? That’s a question you’ve likely been hearing everywhere, and if you haven’t, you might live under a rock. I keep chickens, a practice that isn’t necessarily intended to make me a fortune – more on that in a minute – but does provide enormous satisfaction. Trust me – there is almost nothing more soothing than copping a squat in my lovely chicken coop or chicken yard to watch my hens and three roosters scratch around for kitchen scraps. 🐔#animaltherapy

Years ago, I had prolific laying hens, with gigantic brown eggs and many double yolks. I sold the eggs in bulk to a local farm stand for use in their homemade baked goods. When I say 'bulk,' I mean 'at a discount' and 'too many to count.' Now....we are holding ourselves back because, well…eggs. 🥚

As we’ve watched the 💰 price of eggs climb in the stores, we’ve seen our feed bills growing, too. And while it’s true that the cost of everything has gone up with inflation, what has happened with eggs has been shocking.

⚡️Here's the shocking short + dirty:

☣️ A new bird flu variant spreads as wild birds migrate north.
🪶 Migrating birds rest near large chicken farms, increasing infection risk.
🚜 Farms have massive barns with ventilation systems that pull in outside air.
🧪 If one chicken tests positive, the entire farm—sometimes millions of birds—is quarantined.
⚠️ Regardless of symptoms, all chickens are culled. (The polite word for “killed,” and how it’s done is sickening. This is not humane euthanasia.) 😳 It’s an extreme solution, conducted in a horrific way... " - Farmer Rebecca Collins Brooks
