By inside + out | January 24, 2024

Check out this extraordinary lineup of acts from our friends at THE LOCAL! With live performances ranging from renowned global musicians to award-winning Hudson Valley-based artists, a new conversation series, and family programs–you’ll want to get tickets before they sell out. What you need to know about THE LOCAL, besides the cool vibe of being housed in a former Dutch chapel built in the 1800s–is that the size of this space allows for an up-close, super intimate setting—there isn’t a bad seat in the house.

The Local opened in September 2023 as a space for arts, culture, and community under the guidance of Isabel Soffer and Danny Melnick, co-founders of Hudson Valley Live. The two Saugerties-based music producers and performing arts professionals have each devoted more than 30 years to producing festivals, concerts, and curated arts experiences.

“The Local has been a smash success, and we’re thrilled to be the best new music venue in the Hudson Valley. As this next season proves, we will continue to present the ‘World’s Best Music, Right Here’ ” – Danny Melnick

Some of this year’s highlights include can’t-miss acts like Lenny Kaye (Patti Smith Group) on February 3, five-time Grammy award-winning slide guitarist Cindy Cashdollar (February 24), Grammy-nominated artist Tracy Bonham, who celebrates her birthday with a performance on Saturday, March 16; JigJam (March 12), Caña Dulce y Caña Brava (April 10) who perform music, dance and poetry from Veracruz, Mexico; and Persian classical music by Kayhan Kalhor (June 15).

Our very own local, world-renowned astronomer Bob Berman kicks off his Consider This discussion series on March 19. Plus, this season brings a collaboration with Barbès Brooklyn, one of NYC’s most beloved music clubs, brings three exciting shows: psychedelic French-Latin hybrid music, Southern Appalachian sounds, and New Orleans blues.

“After an exciting fall season, we’re looking forward to returning in 2024 to engage with the community through the arts and with new cultural experiences for people of all ages and interests.” – Isabel Soffer
