The event includes a fireside chat with Buddhist psychoanalyst Dr. Mark Epstein, followed by a facilitated card game called “Where Should We Begin?” designed by Perel to help participants tap into their inner storyteller. The event at The Local will start with a conversation between Perel and Dr. Epstein, a psychiatrist who incorporates Buddhist psychology into his work, teachings, and books. He has extensively written about the fusion of Eastern ideas and psychology for publications such as Tricycle: A Buddhist Review, Yoga Journal, and O: The Oprah Magazine. His books include “Going to Pieces Without Falling Apart,” “Going on Being,” “Thoughts Without a Thinker,” “Open to Desire,” and, most recently, “Psychotherapy Without a Self.” Following the conversation, there will be a thoughtfully facilitated version of Perel’s card game, “Where Should We Begin?” This game invites the audience to unlock the storyteller within.
