A Love Letter to Freedom by Mia Wilson
This February, INSIDE+OUT is relishing Love by sharing an ongoing series of Love Letters written by local changemakers and visionaries in the form of poetry or prose. These unique expressions of Love have emerged in original ways to honor individuals, beings, or places in the region. Here is one by Mia Wilson.
(For Ollie)
they say life is a series of hand clasps,
over and over again.
we are here together now but we’ve met
before I can remember.
this time I am learning the congruence
of what it means
to “hold your heart in your hands”.
what complete transparency feels like
when I am asked to lean into old walls
and lovingly let them come down-
they are not needed anymore.
from here, as I am able
to meet more of you,
I meet more of me.
we expand together;
freedom to be,
freedom to change,
freedom to leave &
come back of your own accord.
you wait,
as you are,
the most beautiful large liquid eye,
deep sigh,
soft blink.
time slows down here,
I feel possibility in between each footfall and
everything is alive and vibrant
wordless,
full.
With love, Mia

MORE ABOUT MIA WILSON
Mia has been with her two horses, Ollie and Jenga, for about ten years. They have lived in various parts of the Hudson Valley, as well as traveled to Florida and Massachusetts. Inseparable, they have experienced life’s many phases together while Mia explores the realms of mind, body, and movement with curiosity. She believes her beautiful companions create a space for humanity, and she is grateful to her horses for being part of their shared journey.
