RELIEF IN SIGHT: James Walsh’s Five-Decade Journey Through Paint
RELIEF IN SIGHT, on view at The Sam and Adele Golden Gallery (The SAGG) running from September 27th – February 20th, is a bold, sweeping retrospective of Walsh’s singular vision. Featuring decades of richly textured works that blur the boundaries between painting and relief, this exhibition is both an homage to material invention and a testament to the artist’s unrelenting pursuit of originality.
Step into a world where paint becomes sculpture, color becomes language, and every surface tells a story. For over fifty years, James Walsh has redefined what acrylic paint can be. More than just a medium, it’s his co-conspirator—malleable, surprising, and endlessly reborn. From the experimental energy of the 1970s to the rigor and refinement of today, Walsh has transformed the act of painting into a lifelong excavation of possibility.
Whether layering, carving, pouring, or sculpting, Walsh pushes acrylic into realms rarely seen—where surface becomes substance and form pulses with life. The result? A body of work that’s as unpredictable as it is unforgettable.
