Offering a 3-day Summer Camp experience for children entering grades 4, 5 and 6! They’ll have fun learning about aviation and its history in a fun and unique setting. Campers will learn the basics of how things fly using experiments and activities, give a basic understanding of early aviation’s beginnings through museum tours, and learn about aviation through the eyes of our pilots.
Each camp day will include a mixture of museum tour, activities, learning collaborations and games. Like the early aviators, they will use low-tech, critical thinking, and peer collaboration to learn and test the principles of flight. From paper planes, to balsa planes, to seeing the real thing up close and speaking with pilots, the campers will be fully immersed in how things fly and how aviation began and evolved.
About Old Aerodrome Rhinebeck and Museum
Cole Palen founded the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in 1958 with a handful of airplanes and a dream. He built it into a world-renowned destination as America’s first flying museum of antique aircraft. The Rhinebeck Aerodrome Museum was established in 1993 as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization to continue Cole’s legacy. Our mission is preserving, restoring and flying the aircraft of the Pioneer, WWI, and Golden Ages of Aviation.
We entertain and educate by preserving over 80 vintage aircraft, many antique automobiles and motorcycles, and related memorabilia in a classic small town airport setting. Our static display Museum is open from May through October and we fly our History of Flight Air Show each Saturday, and WWI Air Show each Sunday, Mid-June through Mid-October.
