10 Fun Things to Know About Simi Stone

By inside + out | May 11, 2024

Local “multipotentialite” Simi Stone has been a passionate creative soul from as early as she can remember. She told INSIDE+OUT, “I believe I was born a musician. I was singing and dancing before I could talk. It’s in my blood I suppose. Music chose me.” And though best known as a musician, singer, performer and songwriter, she also expresses her unbridled flow through comedy and painting. “By the age of seven, she was studying classical violin and ballet. By ten, she was writing and recording her own songs.” Acting and theater soon followed interwoven into her music which led her to sold out performances on the East Village music scene, then nationally, as a part of the groundbreaking Afro-Punk band, Suffrajett. That was until she toured or recorded with the likes of Natalie Merchant, David Byrne, The New Pornographers, the Gipsy Kings and Amy Helm. When she returned to the Hudson Valley as a full-time resident again, she started collaborating regularly with Sara Lee, David Baron, Simone Felice, Gail Ann Dorsey, Chogyi Lama, Elizabeth Mitchell, and many others with whom she has played at the Colony Woodstock, The Falcon, Levon Helm’s Barn and Ulster Performing Arts Center.
