Woodstock Volunteer’s Day 2023: A Day of Gratitude

By inside + out | August 9, 2023

Did you know that Woodstock is the only town in America that officially celebrates its Volunteers? For the past 18 years, “Woodstock Appreciates Its Volunteers” (WAiV) has demonstrated its appreciation for the kindness, personal generosity and bravery of its hometown volunteers on Volunteer’s Day.

This year, on Saturday, August 19, WAiV will hold a town picnic, concert, fun for the kids and a gala fireworks display in grateful celebration of its deeply appreciated volunteers, including the Woodstock Emergency Rescue Squad, its valiant volunteer fire companies and the volunteer gardeners who beautify our village with sumptuous gardens on the Village Green and around Town. And a special shout-out this year to Village Apothecary’s Neil Smoller and his army of Covid-19 vaccination volunteers.

Other notable volunteer entities include Family of Woodstock, the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, Hospice, Food Pantry and Woodstock Area Meals on Wheels.  Groups and events like Performing Arts of Woodstock, Shakespeare in the Park, Woodstock Playhouse and Woodstock’s Annual Christmas Eve on the Green. The Woodstock Artists Association + Museum, Byrdcliffe Guild, Woodstock Little League and Soccer League, Habitat for Humanity, Woodstock Loan Closet – and many more.  THEY’RE ALL VOLUNTEERS!

Check out the entire list of community organizations HERE.  And be sure to volunteer YOURSELF, as WAiV needs your help, too!

MORE ABOUT WOODSTOCK VOLUNTEERS’ DAY

The mission of the Woodstock Volunteers’ Day Committee is to honor all of our volunteers, to enhance the efforts of all our community organizations, to raise awareness about the wide circle of kindness and generosity in our community, and to model for our children that our community values the volunteer spirit. The Woodstock Volunteers’ Day Committee recognizes the members of all the charitable and service organizations in our community and the greater Woodstock area. Our Town Picnic is organized in their honor, a music festival is performed, volunteers are treated to lunch and their children + grandchildren are provided with playful activities. You can thank them on your own, privately or you can celebrate and honor them at this event.
